Review of Miles Davis album Kind of Blue

Kind of Blue album review Miles Davis

"Kind of Blue" was recorded in 1959 in New York City, and features Miles Davis on trumpet, Cannonball Adderly on alto saxophone, John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Wyn Kelly on piano, Bill Evans on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and James Cobb on drums. With this album, Miles Davis didn't request that his musicians have much of a rehearsal, and the musicians had little idea of what they were going to play. As described in the original album liner notes by pianist Bill Evans, Miles had only given the band basic ideas of scales and melody lines, and then asked them to improvise. Once they were all in the studio, Miles gave brief instructions for each song and then they were recorded as they played it. Quite a remarkable way to create one of the best selling albums of all time!
